The Ventures Lab is proud to celebrate KEPsoft Collaborative CIC. The first not-for-profit social enterprise to spin out from the University of Glasgow. This pioneering venture is set to revolutionise kidney exchange programmes (KEPs) by increasing access to living-donor transplants through its innovative KEPsoft platform.
Living-donor kidney transplants offer the best outcomes, yet many willing donors are medically incompatible with their intended recipients. KEPsoft’s technology facilitates donor-matching through sophisticated algorithms, ensuring more patients receive life-saving transplants sooner, reducing reliance on dialysis and improving long-term survival rates.
The Ventures Lab has played a key role in KEPsoft’s transition from an academic project to a fully operational social enterprise, helping KEPsoft to balance its mission with commercial sustainability. The Ventures Lab has provided guidance on structuring a financial model that enables them to deliver impact and business viability, refining their financial and operational structures, ensuring efficiency while allowing for scalable growth.
Working alongside KEPsoft’s leadership and partners, we have contributed to the development of a sustainable business model, securing them access to investment and commercial viability - key factors when launching high-impact ventures.
The Ventures Lab support has helped KEPsoft establish a lean and scalable business model that is investment-ready and positioned for long-term sustainability. In addition to this The Ventures Lab provides ongoing pooled business services in the form of business advice in finance, marketing, legal, and strategic development, as KEPsoft expands its impact.
KEPsoft’s success highlights the strength of Scotland’s social enterprise ecosystem, where mission-driven businesses receive the support they need to scale. The Ventures Lab is proud to be part of this network of advisors, funders, and partners who have made this spin-out possible.
By supporting ventures like KEPsoft, we demonstrate that impact-driven businesses can be commercially viable, reinforcing Scotland’s reputation as a leader in social innovation.
We congratulate KEPsoft on this milestone and look forward to their continued impact on kidney transplantation worldwide.
